RECOVERING DAMAGED FILES

Power failures, hardware problems, or other factors can damage your files. When PowerMate Software™ programs discover a damaged file, it repairs minor flaws automatically. If a file becomes damaged more severely (usually through shut downs or power outages while in the program), you can usually recover the data using the built-in recovery utility.  This is unique to our database engine, which is a feature not found in other databases.

To recover a file on individual version:

  • 1. Start the PowerMate Software™ program and immediately press the Ctrl and Shift keys (on a Macintosh use Option and Command keys) while it is opening.  Hold the keys down until you see the Recover File dialogue box.  Select the damaged file to recover and press Open.  It should be in the PowerMate Software™ folder.
  • 2. In the recovery process, PowerMate Software™ creates a new repaired file which it gives the original file name, and renames the old, damaged file (adds OLD to the end of the file name, e.g.; ADR_BOOKOLD.abb or .fmp or other extension, depending on the program).  {Should the program rename the new, repaired file ADR_BOOKRECOVERED.abb, rename it ADR_BOOK.abb (removing the word “recovered” from the original file name).}
  • 3. Once the file is repaired, recovered and bearing the original file name, it will open normally.

Networked Version

    1. The networked version of a PowerMate Software™ program is recovered by opening the program with the full version of FileMaker Pro. While opening, the program will come up with the ‘a damaged module has been detected and needs to be recovered’ message, and will continue to open.

    2. Go to File at the top of the page, drop to Recover. Identify the damaged module (usually ADR_Book.xxx) and click on it. The program will recover the module, create a new original and re-name the old file ADR_BookOld.xxx. It should now open normally.

If you have followed the steps above carefully, you should have had no difficulty completing the process.  If you get stuck and cannot solve the problem, please click here to send us e-mail or call for technical help at 1-800-581-1943.
